High School Essay Contests

2008 Greater Philadelphia High School Essay Contest

Pick one of the following six topics that most interests you:

  1. Increasing Minimum Wage from the View of the Employee, Employer & Consumer
  2. Road to Riches: Trades vs. Professions
  3. Who Wants to Be Me? The Impact of Identity Theft
  4. Performance Enhancing Drugs: Right or Wrong?
  5. Personal Debt: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
  6. Buying Goods from China – Is it Worth it?

Top three essays receive $1,000, $750, and $500, respectively, with the remaining top ten receiving $200 each. The first-place entry will be featured on CPAzone.org.

Entry Guidelines:

  • A three to five page essay must be typed and double-spaced.
  • Bibliographic references are required.
  • Essays will be judged by a panel of CPAs and will be evaluated for content and creativity. Style, punctuation, spelling and grammar will be considered.
  • Essays must include a cover sheet with the student’s name, high school, class year and e-mail address, as well as the sponsoring teacher’s name, phone number, and e-mail address.
  • The student’s name should not appear anywhere else in the essay to ensure anonymity during judging.
