What does your job entail?

As a valuation and litigation consultant, I am called upon to reconstruct financial records and investigate fraud for my clients. I help to uncover instances where someone misused money or other assets. One of my most memorable cases involved accusations of a missing herd of cows. We used data gathered from veterinary records, birth and death records of cows, statistical information on cow reproduction, and data on cow milk production to support our conclusions. In the end, we were able to provide a damage report to the attorneys that included the estimated value of the cows that were assumed stolen.

Outside interests/hobbies:

Golf, jogging, and spending time with my husband Mark -- also a CPA -- and my West Highland Terrier, Birdie. I also enjoy traveling to famous golf courses all over the country.

What do you like about being a CPA?

Accounting is a great career, even if you don't want to be a public accountant. It gives you a strong business background and can serve as a springboard to many different areas. I would also encourage young CPAs to stick with public accounting. Today, there are so many management consulting disciplines within public accounting. Any of these can lead to a challenging, highly rewarding career.
